As Donald Trump remains consumed by his 2020 election loss, it is important to push back every time he promotes his Big Lie.

According to his social media account, Donald Trump went to bed with Georgia on his mind — specifically, his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden in the Peach State. Six hours later, the president was up again and spreading long-debunked conspiracy theories about his defeat in that election, this time in Michigan.
Just before midnight, Trump shared the post of a MAGA conspiracy theorist who wrote about Dan Bongino’s podcast with right-wing “journalist” John Solomon.
According to Solomon, who has a history of spreading conspiracies and embellishing stories, the president “will soon unveil evidence that foreign powers meddled in the 2020 election.”
Mind you, he made this prediction on the podcast of the guy who was, until last month, the deputy FBI director but who never did anything while in that position about the alleged election theft.
In a nutshell, what happened Tuesday night is that Trump shared the post of one conspiracy theorist, who was relaying the contents of a conversation between two other conspiracy theorists about something the president might do.
Does that sound convoluted? Of course.
But that doesn’t matter, because all of the above benefit from continuing to promote the Big Lie, which stokes outrage among low-information MAGA voters while generating clicks and publicity.
Trump sandwiched that post between a couple of others about Georgia. The first featured one of his nemeses, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, and the second an article by Solomon about a GOP lawmaker who is calling on the state to take over elections in the county.
Then, shortly after 6:00 am on Wednesday morning, the president was at it again, this time reposting a tweet from yet another MAGA conspiracy theorist and influencer who had shared a bunch of falsehoods about the 2020 election in Michigan.
So, why are we telling you this?
First of all, we write a lot about Trump’s unprecedented lawlessness and his corruption. With good reason, because they are the clearest evidence of his authoritarian ambitions and are a real threat to the republic.
But they don’t speak to the severity of his mental disorders.
His obsession with the 2020 election, however, and his delusion that it was “stolen” from him, do just that.
Trump is like a high school football player who lost the state championship by three touchdowns but keeps bringing up how he was robbed by the refs — even though exhaustive reviews of the game tapes have never shown any evidence of bias.
Maybe in the immediate aftermath of the game and the heat of the moment, that reaction would have been understandable. Years later, however, it’s just pathetic.
Unfortunately, this isn’t about a state championship, it’s about US democracy — and Trump is doing incalculable damage to it with his Big Lie.
In addition, we believe it is important to highlight how much time the president’s obsession with his election loss consumes. While it’s not as though the Department of Justice is working on unraveling the cover-up of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and who else may have been involved in them, certainly it could do something more worthwhile than pursuing Trump’s conspiracy theories.
Finally, we keep covering this issue because we have to.
With democracy under assault, nobody can afford to sit by the sidelines — even though too many media outlets, lawmakers, and government officials do.
Every time Trump and his supporters push their 2020 election denialism, it is vital that somebody pushes back and points out that it is just that… a big lie.
