Donald Trump takes ‘unhinged’ to another level with insane Easter threat.

We are feeling a tiny bit sorry for the mainstream media journalists having to spend their Easter Sunday sanewashing Donald Trump’s latest rant and for the Republicans who have to pretend that they didn’t see it. However, it’s really only a tiny bit, because it’s the result of the choices they have made.

Not us, though, so here is the president’s latest missive.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!” he wrote in a social media post. “Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”

That’s a lot to take in, so let’s get to it.

First of all, as we have explained, targeting purely civilian infrastructure is a war crime. There is a bit of a gray area when it comes to facilities like power plants — at least the Russians think so (although the International Criminal Court does not) — but Trump’s threats pretty clearly indicate that he wants the military to launch attacks that violate the rules of war.

At least the president didn’t also mention this time that he wants to target Iranian desalination plants, which would be a textbook war crime.

Needless to say, these threats don’t make Trump sound like a level-headed commander-in-chief for whom the war is going well.

And it is not.

Unlike other wartime presidents, his favorability ratings never saw a bump for dragging the country into a conflict, and Iran’s strategy of making the American people feel the consequences of Trump’s actions in the form of higher prices is unquestioningly working.

The war is deeply unpopular among most segments of the population (apart from “MAGA Republicans,” who would apparently support anything the president does even if he bludgeoned their own children to death), and it keeps getting worse for the GOP.

It is also clear that Trump’s bluster and threats have had no effect on Iran’s leaders so far, so calling them “crazy bastards” also won’t do the trick. They understand that attacking US allies in the Middle East and keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed gives them a lot of leverage, so the president’s expletive-filled rant will only reaffirm their belief that they need to hold the course.

And, of course, Trump sounds un-presidential and ridiculous.

“It’s people acting like they are puffed up and tough when what we really see from the administration is in this war is an absence of a plan, the absence of a clear rationale, [and] no effort to get allies on board,” said Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) of Trump and former Fox News morning show host and current Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

In a normal administration, a cabinet consisting of qualified experts would start talking about the 25th Amendment. However, since Trump has surrounded himself with bootlicking courtiers, he has nothing to worry about on that front.

And while Republicans will just shrug off the latest evidence that the president is nuts, oil markets will not, so if Trump follows through on his promise to attack civilian infrastructure (as both the US and Israel have already done), and Iran responds in kind, the coming week could result in a massive escalation of a war that has already roiled the world economy.
