Last month, Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced his plan to step down from his leadership role. “This will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate,” he said.
Though McConnell condemned Donald Trump after the January 6 insurrection, he missed at least two prior opportunities to stop the former president from abusing power. He could have stepped forward during either impeachment trial to take a stand against the MAGA insanity, but he was too cowardly to stand for the Constitution against his party’s inevitable nominee.
