Donald J. Trump, one of the world’s foremost soccer experts who also once served one term as president of the United States, had some thoughts Sunday on the loss that eliminated the US Women’s National Team (USWNT) from this year’s Women’s World Cup.

In his astute analysis, Trump did not mention that the US lost to Sweden, the third-ranked team in the world and a squad that had steamrolled through the group stage by winning all of its games, scoring nine times and conceding only one goal.

Another stat that was left out of his post-match report was that the US had 11 shots on goal to Sweden’s one, and forced the Swedish goalkeeper to make several spectacular saves.

Finally, he also omitted the fact that the match was not only decided in a penalty shootout, but also that it ultimately came down to a lengthy video review upon which it was determined that Sweden’s game-winning spot kick had crossed the goal line by less than a tenth of an inch.

What Trump did, however, was to identify the reasons for the stinging defeat, which sealed the USWNT’s earliest exit ever from a World Cup: Joe Biden, the man who trounced him in the 2020 election, and wokeness.

“The ‘shocking and totally unexpected’ loss by the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team to Sweden is fully emblematic of what is happening to the our once great Nation under Crooked Joe Biden,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website. “Many of our players were openly hostile to America – No other country behaved in such a manner, or even close. WOKE EQUALS FAILURE.”

What Trump, who not only offers soccer commentary but also likes to weigh in on political matters from time to time, is likely referring to is that several USWNT members were critical of him during his time in office.

For example, Megan Rapinoe declined an invitation to the White House after the US won the last World Cup.

That is one of the reasons why Trump singled her out in his critique of the team after she missed her penalty.

“Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!! MAGA,” Trump wrote in his trademark gracious style.

Many of the players, including Rapinoe, are not just soccer players but also fight for diversity and inclusion off the pitch, which is something that clashes with Trump’s own political beliefs.

As a result, USWNT players are frequent targets of right-wing commentators, who have criticized members of the team for not singing the national anthem. This is something Trump himself has also done in the past, but at least he made an effort.

The soccer analyst’s comments on the players being openly hostile to America should be taken seriously however. After all, Trump is an expert on the issue. Just last week, he was indicted for trying to stage a coup.
