Why Haven’t There Been 2020 Election Prosecutions? There Is an Easy Answer

01/21/26

Donald Trump hinted that prosecutions are in the works related to the 2020 election. What can we expect? Most likely, just more lies.

Of all of Donald Trump’s obsessions, there is none greater than his 2020 election loss and his refusal to acknowledge that Joe Biden defeated him handily. It spawned the Big Lie, a violent insurrection, and a coup attempt.

In spite of filing (and losing) numerous lawsuits in the aftermath of that election, telling endless lies, and not being able to present any evidence to show that there were any irregularities that would have changed the outcome, Trump continues to insist that he was robbed.

Here is the thing, though: The president is one of the most petty, vindictive, and litigious persons alive. In addition, he has shown that he will weaponize the Department of Justice and try to strongarm anybody and everybody to do his bidding.

DOJ has punished those who investigated and prosecuted the January 6 attack on the Capitol (and on democracy itself) and gone after some of Trump’s perceived enemies under the flimsiest of pretenses.

That includes former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Trump is even using his presidential power to punish windmills.

So, here is our question: Knowing all of this, how come nobody is being prosecuted for “stealing” the 2020 election? It doesn’t even appear as though the government is trying to find those people.

In fact, Trump’s quest to pursue those who allegedly committed this egregious crime against him resembles OJ Simpson’s search for “the real killer” of the two people he murdered.

Is it possible that prosecutions are in the works?

The president suggested as much when he spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday and (inexplicably yet predictably) brought up the issue.

“The 2020 US presidential election [was] rigged. It was a rigged election,” he said. “Everybody now knows that. They found out. People will soon be prosecuted for what they did.”

Even if he had credibility on this issue (or any other), it seems as though we would know if a serious effort were being made to uncover this “theft.” After all, neither Trump nor DOJ are being very subtle about their intentions or the way they pervert the law.

And if there really were a smoking gun, the president wouldn’t stop talking about it.

Therefore, the answer to the question of why there haven’t been any prosecutions or investigations is obvious: There is nobody to prosecute because the 2020 election was legit.

Might there be some ridiculous efforts forthcoming to go after people to keep up the pretense? Sure. Is it likely that this is what Trump is referring to? Probably.

After all, even his most loyal supporters must be wondering why this “conspiracy,” which, it bears remembering, would have been hatched and executed while Trump was president, hasn’t been uncovered yet.

But he shouldn’t be worried. His Big Lie shows that he can just concoct another false narrative that they will swallow hook, line, and sinker.
