After GA Raid, Trump Shares Kooky Conspiracy Theory to Justify Election Theft

To more easily rig the midterms in his favor, Donald Trump needs some kind of pretext that allows him to assume greater federal control over the upcoming elections.

The problem is that, even though he has been trying to undermine the integrity of US elections since arriving on the political scene, it is predominantly only his hard-core supporters who are buying his lies and conspiracy theories.

The MAGA faithful, however, will believe anything.

On Wednesday, for example, Trump shared a social media post that details a cockamamie scheme explaining how he lost the 2020 election.

According to this theory, Barack Obama was behind a ploy that involved money sent to Iran, an embassy in Dubai, operatives in Italy and Switzerland, Italian spy satellites used to hack voting machines, and CIA technology.

And China coordinated the entire thing, but the CIA oversaw it, and the FBI covered it up.

Of course, all of this supposedly happened while Trump was president.

Now, if this kind of nonsense were confined to the recesses of QAnon-type websites or Alex Jones podcasts, we could all have a good chuckle.

However, it’s no longer a laughing matter when the president of the United States amplifies this garbage in an effort to lay the groundwork for rigging the next election.

What is even more problematic is that Trump seems willing to use the full force of the federal government in this endeavor.

And that brings us to a deeply troubling development: Wednesday’s FBI raid of an election center in Fulton County, GA, and the seizure of ballots from the 2020 election.

Georgia, which at the time had (and still has) a Republican governor and secretary of state, became ground zero for Trump’s Big Lie and his effort to overturn the result of the election. That is one of the reasons why the outcome in the Peach State has been studied and audited extensively, both by the GOP state government itself as well as by academics in Georgia and elsewhere.

None of these audits has found any irregularities that would have altered the outcome of the race.

Of course, facts and reality have never deterred Trump nor his supporters.

Therefore, it stands to reason that a deeply partisan and hyper-loyal Department of Justice will find something in the seized materials that Trump is going to use to claim that Joe Biden (perhaps with the help of the Chinese, Iranians, Italians, Swiss, Merryl Lynch, CIA, and FBI) “stole” the 2020 election from him.

And that will then serve as a justification to federalize the elections. Maybe it will be a claim that non-citizens voted (which would also be used as a push to pass the SAVE Act), even though we know that isn’t the case. After all, the most comprehensive audit of its kind, conducted by the Republican secretary of state, showed that 20 out of 8.2 million registered Georgia voters weren’t American citizens.

Or maybe it will be something related to voting machines.

It should be noted that we are firm believers that voting machines should produce verifiable results, i.e., they should provide a paper trail for post-election audits. The difference between us and Trump is that we want fair elections while he wants elections that he ends up winning, no matter what it takes.

What was particularly curious (and troubling) about Wednesday’s raid was that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard appeared to be on hand for a domestic law enforcement matter, according to a report from Reuters.

Since we doubt that she was trying to get to the bottom of the Italian satellites that allegedly changed all those votes, we must assume that something much more nefarious is going on.

One thing is clear: No matter how much attention this story receives in the corporate media, it won’t be enough.

This raid should put every pro-democracy organization on the highest alert. It is the clearest indication yet that Trump will do the thing he has always accused his opponents of (without ever presenting evidence to support those claims): He will try to steal the midterms.
