If you are having a nice Sunday, you are way ahead of Donald Trump, who is not. It seems to have dawned on the former president that a trial in Washington, DC, for his actions related to overturning the results of the 2020 election is putting him in real peril.

Perhaps, until now, Trump may have believed that he can escape all of his recent indictments unscathed. After all, the one in New York is for white-collar financial crimes, and the former president has avoided real accountability for those all his life. The one in Florida for taking classified documents and obstructing justice is happening in his backyard, and the upcoming one in Georgia also takes place in a state where he can hope that members of his cult will make it onto the jury.

Washington, DC, is a different story, which is something Trump appears to have realized while watching the Sunday talk shows in which his attorney John Lauro was test-driving possible defenses in the former president’s election case.

While Lauro rolled out one ridiculous talking point after another in an effort to make this seem like a free speech case and not one related to a US president doing his best to prevent a duly elected successor from being sworn in, Trump was taking to his Truth Social website to lament the fact that the venue for this trial would be the nation’s capital, where the alleged crimes took place.

“NO WAY I CAN GET A FAIR TRIAL, OR EVEN CLOSE TO A FAIR TRIAL, IN WASHINGTON, D.C. THERE ARE MANY REASONS FOR THIS, BUT JUST ONE IS THAT I AM CALLING FOR A FEDERAL TAKEOVER OF THIS FILTHY AND CRIME RIDDEN EMBARRASSMENT TO OUR NATION, WHERE MURDERS HAVE JUST SHATTERED THE ALL TIME RECORD, OTHER VIOLENT CRIMES HAVE NEVER NEEN WORSE, AND TOURISTS HAVE FLED,” Trump “truthed” in his trademark all-caps, no-spell-checking style. “THE FEDERAL TAKEOVER IS VERY UNPOPULAR WITH POTENTIAL AREA JURORS, BUT NECESSARY FOR SAFETY, GREATNESS, & FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE!”

Lauro also floated the idea of moving the trial elsewhere. He suggested West Virginia because of its “diversity.” If you are wondering, West Virginia is 92 percent white, and Trump achieved his second-best result in the 2020 election there when he trounced Joe Biden by nearly 40 points. Therefore, the only diversity to be found in West Virginia is in just how fervently the people there support Trump.

The former president also seems aggrieved by the judge to whom his case has been assigned, presumably because she has been dishing out tough sentences on the MAGA cult members who stormed the Capitol on Trump’s behalf.

“THERE IS NO WAY I CAN GET A FAIR TRIAL WITH THE JUDGE ‘ASSIGNED’ TO THE RIDICULOUS FREEDOM OF SPEECH/FAIR ELECTIONS CASE,” Trump truthed. “EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS, AND SO DOES SHE! WE WILL BE IMMEDIATELY ASKING FOR RECUSAL OF THIS JUDGE ON VERY POWERFUL GROUNDS, AND LIKEWISE FOR VENUE CHANGE, OUT IF D.C.”

Finally, he also had some things to say about “deranged” special prosecutor Jack Smith and somebody named “Bidin.” Presumably, he meant the guy who beat him by 7 million votes in 2020.

In any case, the former president feels that it’s not fair that he was indicted “right in the middle of [his] election campaign.”

Obviously, no votes will be cast for nearly six months, and Trump has repeatedly said that he already has the GOP primary locked up. In addition, he keeps claiming that these indictments make him more popular, so it’s tough to see how he isn’t grateful for these new charges.

However, according to his social media posts, he apparently is not.
