The author writes, “Some of America’s largest oil and gas companies, private utilities, and financial institutions that bankroll fossil fuels also back police foundations – opaque private entities that raise money to pay for training, weapons, equipment, and surveillance technology for departments across the US.”
California Cuts Off Coronavirus Aid to Two Cities That Refuse to Shut Down (Reader Steve)
The author writes, “Gov. Gavin Newsom for the first time is using his newly won financial power to withhold tens of thousands of dollars from Atwater and Coalinga in California’s Central Valley because they are defying state health orders by allowing all businesses to remain open during the pandemic. Mounting Poisonings, Blindness, Deaths as Toxic Hand Sanitizers Flood the Market (Mili)
From Ars Technica: “The [FDA] reported that its ongoing testing has found sanitizers containing methanol at levels ranging from 1 percent to 80 percent. No amount of methanol is acceptable, the agency notes. The alcohol, which is metabolized to formaldehyde then to formic acid in the body, can cause systemic toxic effects if ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin. Ingesting just two tablespoons can be fatal to small children, who may be tempted to drink sanitizers within reach. Smaller amounts can lead to permanent blindness.”

The author writes, “Experts believe the remains of up to 500 people guillotined during the French Revolution may be buried in the walls of a listed monument in Paris. The discovery blows apart the accepted historical account, which suggests the bodies of famous guillotinés, including Louis XV’s mistress Madame du Barry, Olympe de Gouges and Maximilien Robespierre, revolutionary architect of the Reign of Terror, were moved to the network of catacombs under the city.”
