Diana Sanchez Gives Birth in Jail Cell After Laboring for 5 Hours (Chris)

The author writes, “A mother who gave birth in a Denver County Jail cell is suing the Denver Sheriff Department and Denver Health Medical Center. Diana Sanchez claims her rights were violated. ‘This case is incredibly disturbing,’ said Mari Newman, the attorney for Sanchez. ‘She went into labor in the early morning hours. She immediately told a guard and later a nurse that she was in labor, that she was experiencing contractions, that her water had broken, and ultimately that she was passing blood.’”

Study: Labor Militancy in Higher Education Is on the Rise (Chris)

The author writes, “Last year saw the highest number of strikes in America in more than 30 years. The strikes by public teachers got the most attention. But a new study shows that workers in higher education are getting scrappy as well.”

The Trump Voters Whose ‘Need for Chaos’ Obliterates Everything Else (Russ)

From the New York Times: “[The authors of a new paper] find that those who meet their definition of having a ‘need for chaos’ express that need by willingly spreading disinformation. Their goal is not to advance their own ideology but to undermine political elites, left and right, and to ‘mobilize others against politicians in general.’ These disrupters do not ‘share rumors because they believe them to be true. For the core group, hostile political rumors are simply a tool to create havoc.’”

Harry Potter Books Removed From School Due to ‘Curses and Spells’ (Mili)

The author writes, “The students at St. Edward Catholic School in Nashville can no longer check out the popular Harry Potter book series from their school’s library. The seven-book series depicting the magical adventures of a young wizard and his friends was removed from the library because of their content, the Rev. Dan Reehil, a pastor at the Roman Catholic parish school, wrote in an email.  ‘These books present magic as both good and evil, which is not true, but in fact a clever deception. The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text,’ the email states.”
