Trump’s FCC Doesn’t Want Republican Voters to Hear James Talarico Talk Religion

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr didn’t want ‘The View’ or ‘Late Night with Stephen Colbert’ to air Talarico’s message of love thy neighbor.

There was a huge dustup this week involving talk show host Stephen Colbert, Texas State Rep. James Talarico (D), CBS, and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr. CBS warned The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that having Democratic senatorial candidate Talarico on the program would be a violation of the FCC’s equal-time provision.

Colbert said that CBS lawyers told him not to interview Talarico because of new guidance from Donald Trump’s FCC about equal airtime for political candidates. Colbert published his Talarico interview on YouTube, where many more viewers saw it compared to the ratings for the show on a typical night.

Meanwhile over at The ViewThe Hill reports: “The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) launched a probe into ABC’s The View after the program held an interview with Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, according to multiple outlets.”

Why are Carr and the Republicans so obsessed with silencing Talarico? It may be Talarico’s message that Christians should follow the teachings of Jesus instead of embracing Christian nationalism. Many GOP politicians and operatives claim to be Christians, but according to Talarico they don’t follow Jesus’s teachings about loving thy neighbor and helping the stranger. Republican policies tell us to fear thy neighbor and abuse the stranger.

For Carr and his fellow travelers, Talarico reveals their hypocrisy in a way some conservatives might find appealing. His message could make MAGA cultists reconsider the foundation of their beliefs.

We’ll leave it to Texas Democrats to choose between Talarico and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D) in the primary election. Both of these candidates have strong resumes and good communication skills. But the fear of Talarico by many Republicans is a sure sign they know their religious cosplay isn’t selling as it has in the past.

Here is some related news.

The Washington press corps does not recognize this as Christian persecution because the Christians being persecuted are not considered as authentic, which to say, as legitimate, as Christians who holler and shout about abortion. The Christianity of those actually being persecuted is erased.
