The Supreme Court’s decision in Trump v. United States marks a historic ruling that may eventually be seen as a huge mistake. In a 6-3 party-line decision, the court granted presidents immunity from criminal prosecution for actions deemed “official acts” performed while in office. They did not give much clarity on how to distinguish “official acts” from “private acts.” It seems the six radical justices have crafted a ruling guaranteed to produce widespread uncertainty and a lot of court cases, while creating an imperial presidency with far less accountability than the Founders intended.
