Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) may be dead, he may be on the brink of death, or he may be hanging on for dear life. Who knows?
This is yet another example of Republicans ignoring norms and common decency to try to gain political advantage. McConnell was picked up from his home in an ambulance on June 14. Since then there has been no proof presented to confirm that he’s still alive. His staff hasn’t provided any details about his condition.
I would not be surprised if McConnell’s advance directive specifies that the GOP can use his rotting husk in any manner they find necessary to own the Democrats. His life mission has been to achieve permanent minority rule for his party of bad ideas and diminishing demographics.
Kentucky law requires the governor to call a special election in the case of a senator becoming incapacitated. In this case he would need to issue a proclamation before August 3. Some suggest the Republicans want to pretend McConnell is alive until after the deadline. Then they will pull the plug and let him begin his final journey.
Meanwhile, social media has been flooded with “I called Mitch McConnell” memes related to the situation. It appears to have started after Scott Jennings, a man who lies for a living on CNN and other outlets, posted a tweet proclaiming that he spoke to his old friend Mitch McConnell this morning for just shy of 20 minutes — joining several top Republicans who had also reported having 20-minute chats with the ailing, or late, senator.
In this cartoon Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has a call with his old friend Mitch, and gets some advice on what the Democrats should do to win the midterm elections this year.
Here are some examples of the memes:

I spoke to McConnell for about 20 minutes this morning.
He said we should end the war with Iran, quit giving aid to Israel, stop spying on Americans without a warrant, and he’s really sorry about how my primary turned out.

I spoke to my old friend Mitch McConnell this morning, the senior Senator from Kentucky. He’s still recovering in the hospital. We talked for just shy of 45 minutes. He's so sharp. Just like always he let me do all of the talking. He's a great listener. After that we prayed…
